Course Objective:
To provide students with additional practice in essay writing while guiding them to create longer, more comprehensive compositions that demonstrate mastery of academic writing techniques.
Course Description:
This advanced essay writing course is designed for students who have completed Essay Writing I and Essay Writing II and are ready to take their skills to the next level. Students will practice writing one new essay each week, using a variety of formats including expository, descriptive, narrative, and persuasive writing. By engaging in frequent, structured practice, students refine their skills and work toward proficiency in creating well-organized and compelling essays.
The course focuses on building confidence, speed, and independence in essay writing. Students will:
Write five-paragraph essays across multiple formats
Develop clear statements and strong supporting arguments
Construct detailed introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions
Practice organization, transitions, and paragraph development
Expand their ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively
Throughout the course, students are encouraged to explore creativity within structured formats while maintaining academic rigor. By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of polished essays and a deeper understanding of essay composition, structure, and style.
This course is ideal for middle and high school students seeking to advance their writing skills and gain confidence in producing well-crafted essays independently. With consistent practice in multiple essay types, students leave the course ready to handle a variety of writing assignments in school and beyond.
