Course Objective:
The Grammar Course III: Punctuation is designed to teach students proper use and placement of a variety of punctuation forms, helping them write clearly, accurately, and creatively.
Course Description:
This third class in the four-part Grammar series focuses on punctuation, offering students instruction and practice to strengthen their writing skills. In this grammar course, students will learn not only the rules for correct punctuation, but also how to use punctuation strategically to improve clarity and add style to their writing.
Students will study and practice:
Commas – for lists, clauses, and clarity
Colons and semicolons – for connections and emphasis
Dashes, hyphens, and ellipses – for style and rhythm
Quotation marks and apostrophes – for dialogue and possession
Other punctuation marks – as needed for clarity and flow
Emphasis will be placed on both proper usage and the creative application of punctuation to enliven writing. Students will complete exercises, apply rules in their own writing, and receive instructor feedback to refine accuracy and style.
By the end of the grammar course, students will be able to:
Recognize and correctly use a wide range of punctuation
Enhance readability and flow in their writing
Apply punctuation to emphasize ideas and convey tone effectively
