Posts on Thursdays (Grades 5+)
Course Objective:
The Grammar Course II: Common Errors is designed to teach students the essential elements of strong sentence structure, helping them build powerful paragraphs and polished compositions. This course focuses on writing and speaking with clarity, correctness, and confidence.
Course Description:
Grammar II is the second course in a four part series focused on key elements of language arts. In this grammar course, students will build on their foundational knowledge from Grammar I and focus on avoiding common errors that weaken writing. Emphasis will be placed on sentence structure, grammar rules, and stylistic clarity.
Students will learn to:
Identify and correct fragmented or run-on sentences
Understand subject-verb agreement and proper verb tense
Improve punctuation and capitalization
Avoid common word usage errors, including homophones and misused modifiers
Enhance overall clarity, flow, and cohesion in paragraphs and compositions
The course combines explanation, guided practice, and instructor feedback to ensure that students not only recognize errors but also apply corrections effectively. Students will complete exercises that involve analyzing sentences, revising paragraphs, and practicing writing error-free compositions.
By the end of the grammar course, students will have a strong grasp of proper sentence structure, the ability to avoid common grammatical mistakes, and the skills to write with greater precision and confidence. This course is ideal for middle and high school students who want to improve their writing mechanics, build stronger paragraphs, and communicate clearly in both academic and everyday contexts.
With structured instruction, interactive exercises, and detailed feedback, students leave this course prepared to write and speak effectively while avoiding the most common errors that impede clarity and style.
