Course Objective:

Get ready to travel the world, no suitcase required! In Passport to Discovery: A Writing Journey, students embark on an 8-week global adventure where each week brings a new country to explore. From the colorful streets of Brazil to the historic landmarks of Greece, students will discover cultures, traditions, foods, and famous figures from around the world all while building their writing skills. Each week, students watch an engaging country video, complete a travel passport fact sheet, and respond to a creative writing prompt focused on a specific theme like culture, food, or daily life. Hands-on challenges bring learning to life, and students earn passport stamps as they go, creating a meaningful collection of their global discoveries.

Course Description:

By the end of Passport to Discovery, students will be able to:

• Explore and identify key facts about different countries.
• Develop descriptive and creative writing skills through weekly travel-themed prompts.
• Use imagination to write from different perspectives (traveler, resident, storyteller, etc.).
• Organize ideas clearly in paragraphs and short compositions.
• Make connections between geography, culture, and storytelling.
• Conduct useful research. 
• Build confidence in sharing ideas through writing and optional creative projects.
• Demonstrate understanding of global diversity through written and visual work.

Weekly Structure 

Each week:

• Students select a new country from the provided list.
• Watch the weekly country video 
• Complete the fact worksheet 

• Respond to the weekly prompt (focused on a specific theme like food, culture, history, etc.). 
• Complete a creative extension activity . 

• Earn a stamp after completing the week’s work.
