How  Newspaper Club Works

The Online Scribblers student Newspaper Club is open to students in grades 6–12, and no prior journalism or writing experience is required. Students of all skill levels are welcome to participate and explore the world of student journalism.

The Online Scribblers Newspaper Club gives students the opportunity to explore journalism, reporting, and creative writing while contributing to a collaborative student newspaper. Students develop their writing skills by researching stories, sharing opinions, and reporting on topics that interest them.

Each edition of our student newspaper, Scribbler Nation, covers a two-month publication cycle. During this time, students collaborate as a team to develop ideas, write articles, and help shape the content of the newspaper.

Students meet for three live Zoom meetings during each cycle. In these sessions, they:

    • brainstorm story ideas

    • discuss journalism techniques

    • collaborate with other student writers

Between meetings, students continue working on their articles, using instructor feedback and tips to hone and edit the final drafts that will appear in the next issue of Scribbler Nation.

This process gives students the opportunity to experience how a real newspaper works, from idea generation to final publication.

There are many ways for students to contribute to the Online Scribblers newspaper. Writers, photographers, artists, and puzzle creators all play an important role in bringing each issue together.
