Course Objective
The Short Story Writing Course introduces students to the five essential elements of storytelling: characterization, setting, plot, conflict, and dialogue. Learners will gain foundational skills for writing original short stories and understanding classic works. By the end of the course, students will be able to:

    • Identify and apply the five elements of story creation

    • Analyze classic short stories for structure, style, and techniques

    • Develop original characters, plots, settings, and dialogue

    • Improve reading comprehension through story analysis

    • Write short stories using clear organization and storytelling principles

Course Description
This short story writing course guides students through the fundamentals of short story creation while strengthening reading and comprehension skills. Learners will read classic short stories and practice applying storytelling techniques in their own writing.

Students will also practice:

    • Breaking stories into core elements: characterization, setting, plot, conflict, and dialogue

    • Planning story arcs with engaging beginnings, middles, and endings

    • Developing believable characters and immersive settings

    • Using dialogue and narrative style to enhance story clarity and interest

    • Writing and revising original short stories that demonstrate understanding of story structure

By completing this course, students will gain confidence in short story writing, capable of reading, analyzing, and producing creative, well-structured short stories. This course provides the foundation for both fiction writing and improved comprehension of classic literature.

Week 7:         Titles and transitions
