FAQ

Selecting the right online writing class for your student is an important decision. Below, you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions. If your question isn’t answered, please email Josie at josie@onlinescribblers.com for personalized assistance.

Asynchronous Online Writing Classes
The online writing class is asynchronous, allowing students to log in to the secure classroom at any time that is convenient for them. New classwork is posted once a week, and students have a full week to complete lessons, quizzes, and assignments at their own pace.

Estimated Weekly Time for Online Writing Classes
While every student approaches course material differently, on average, students report spending 1–3 hours per week on lower-level courses and 2–4 hours per week on upper-level courses. This includes time for lessons, assignments, and composing original work, helping students develop strong writing skills at their own pace.

Flexible Scheduling for Online Writing Classes
We understand that homeschooling often allows families the flexibility to travel or manage other commitments, which may occasionally take a student away from internet access and online writing class lessons. This is generally not a problem, as work can be made up before the absence or upon return. All assignments must be completed by the final day of the course, and instructors work closely with students and families to create a mutually beneficial makeup schedule.

Student Communication and Support in Online Writing Classes
Students are encouraged to communicate frequently and directly with their instructor. The secure online classroom includes a real-time messaging center, allowing students to ask questions privately and receive prompt feedback. For additional support, weekly Zoom office hours are available (note: Zoom conferences may not be available to California charter school students).

Choosing the Right Online Writing Class
Students should enroll in online writing classes that best match their skill level and the specific writing skills they need to develop. While grade levels are provided as a guideline for registration, it’s more important to select courses that are skill-appropriate rather than strictly grade-specific. The only exception is high school-level coursework, which is reserved for students in grades 9–12 unless the instructor approves otherwise.

Companion Manuals for Online Writing Classes
Our Companion Manuals are optional resources designed to give students extra practice on the skills taught in the online writing class lessons. They are not required to complete the course. Companion Manuals can be ordered at the time of registration or anytime during the 8-week course.

Faith-Neutral Online Writing Classes
None of the material in our online writing class lessons or readings is faith-based. Our goal is to help young writers of all backgrounds and denominations succeed in their writing skills. While students are welcome to explore topics of faith in their own assignments, all course content remains secular and focuses entirely on developing writing, grammar, and composition skills.

Refunds and Course Flexibility
Refunds for our online writing classes are handled on a case-by-case basis. Parents with concerns should contact the instructor directly to ensure the course meets the unique needs of each student. If a refund is requested after every effort has been made to accommodate a student’s needs, it is generally prorated based on the number of course weeks completed, minus a $25 registration fee.

Additionally, if a student needs to pause their progress for any reason within 14 days of enrollment, the full tuition can be applied to a future online writing class—no questions asked. This ensures students have the flexibility to continue learning without losing their investment.
